Architecture, Space and Society Network was founded in 2011 by Dr Tag Gronberg, Dr Leslie Topp and Dr Zoe Opacic at the Department of History of Art and Screen Media, Birkbeck College with the aim to provide a focus for the research activities taking place within Birkbeck and beyond in the area of architectural, design, and landscape history.
By bringing together scholars from early and modern periods with academics from other disciplines, curators and heritage experts, it also acts as a forum for those with an interest in the built environment and space more generally.
As well as organising lectures, symposia and workshops, ASSN is currently involved in a larger project focusing on semi-independent urban configurations or ‘worlds within worlds’, centred on London’s Stratford and Westminster.
